Since 2011, we have supported 127 community groups to lead the transition toward a more resilient, sustainable London.

Community-led urban transformation

Energy Garden supports communities to improve biodiversity and grow food around transport infrastructure. Over the last seven years Energy Garden has secured funding to negotiate the legal permissions of multiple transport partners, fund staff to oversee development of gardens, run education programmes and buy the necessary materials and equipment for local people to build greener spaces.  You can read about all our projects here.

100% Community Run

The gardens in our network are run by and for the communities that use the stations. We always start by asking: How do you see your station? The conversations that result lead us down unexpected pathways and every station’s garden is a reflection of the community that lives and travels there. Take a look at our map and find a station near you. Then message us and we will connect you to the gardening group via WhatsApp.

Over 300 people are involved on a regular basis with Energy Garden across the 26 gardens.

These garden platforms are seen by millions of people each year. While there are 2.4 billion passenger journeys a year, the average station see 15,000 passenger visits a day. The impact has been recognised by TfL, whose reports show that stations with Energy Gardens consistently have the highest Customer Services Scoring across the rail; this has been independently verified with customer survey reports by Imperial College London.

“People see the station in a fresh light- they now see it as ‘their’ station. We’re all very proud of the garden, and it’s created a real sense of belonging in the community. It’s wonderful to be working so closely with our customers.”

— Alessandra Della Scala, Station Delivery Manager
