Willesden Junction
Our garden at Willesden Junction Station has come along leaps and bounds in the past year and we can’t wait to continue improving this garden in the coming years. This station is the gateway to Harlesden and the local area and has historically been a key transport hub for much of West London. With major investment entering into the area in the form of the OPDC masterplan and the arrival of the new HS2 line, we wish to capitalise on this moment of change and to secure a green future for this station, allowing local people to take ownership of this space throughout the transition.
Our garden at this station consists of planters on the platform that are taken care of by local volunteers and planted with bright, green and fragrant plants that aim to provide comfortable settings for commuters using the overground. In 2019 we gained access to a space adjacent to the overground tracks, 200m2 of green space that we endearingly refer to as “The Mound”. We are working with the community to develop this green space, just outside the station, to the left of the station approach, by the bus stand. We hope to turn this space into a green, biodiverse oasis nestled between train tracks, utilising reclaimed materials from local industry to create growing space that we will eventually plant with vegetables and native species.
We need your support to help maintain this garden, and your guidance to shape how it grows. We have plenty of great ideas on how we would like to see the station improve, and we would love to hear your thoughts. Our community always need help watering, and we always welcome people to join us! Join us on thursdays from 2pm-6pm and have your say! If you would like to be part of our Whatsapp group where we coordinate, please email callum@energygarden.org.uk.
