Hackney Downs

Hackney Downs is a planter garden that stretches across three platforms. Our smallest garden in size, it has had an outsized impact over the past few years, winning two awards in Arriva’s Overground in Bloom competition.

The 20 planters have a total surface area of 12.52m2 and are filled with herbs and flowers which help to brighten up the station. The planters are lovingly maintained by a group of local volunteers with the support of Energy Garden.

Horticultural description: This garden is made up of planters which receive the full brunt of both the elements and urban life; hardy perennials have been selected for this garden for their tough nature and ability to thrive in these conditions. If soil health is maintained to a high standard then these plants will be able to thrive year in and year out.
