Hatton Cross Station TRANSFORMATION
Our newest garden launches at Hatton Cross Station on 15 May from 11-13:00
As part of the 160-year celebration of the tube network, Transport for London invited Energy Garden to revitalise this famous station in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Launching on 15 May, the new hub combines Brutalist architecture, nature, community gardening, solar energy and art. It was built by Energy Garden and TfL staff, members of the local community and corporate volunteering groups from British Airways.
DESIGN: Energy Garden commissioned landscape designers Amelia Bouquet and Emilie Bausager for the garden design. The planting acts as a living mural, drawing inspiration from the unique abstract shapes made by the flight paths of airplanes and birds. It includes growing plots for residents, and tall statement bird houses, feeders and baths to encourage a bird-friendly landscape. Thanks to Amelia Bouquet for the photos.
ART: Energy Garden and TfL also commissioned artist Dan Maier to create a set of graphic interlocking vinyls for the station windows. The vinyls bring a nature-inspired vibrancy to the station whilst also celebrating the history of the building and the area, and its association with Heathrow airport.
SOLAR: Our good friends at Carbon3 brought the finishing touch with a sweet new off-grid solar array that will power a battery for charging phones and fairy lights in the garden.
Hatton Cross now joins the Energy Garden network of 20 community gardens across London's railways. We’ll host regular events here throughout the year so if you live nearby and want to get involved, let us know by writing to Callum at callum@energygarden.org.uk.
